Instructor Profiles
Julia Dixon:
Qualifications:
I started Aqua Aerobics classes in 1996 in Tasmania, and have been presenting on the Gold Coast since 1998. Qualifications include: M.Ed, Grad Cert TESOL, BA, Dip Management and Certificate III in Fitness with specialisation in Aqua Aerobics.
Why did you get involved in the fitness industry?
Over the years I have seen the benefits of hydrotherapy in all ages and stages of life. Water works miracles, and hydrotherapy is the ultimate fitness and healing space. I enjoy running classes, because as the song goes “people who need people are the luckiest people in the world”. People come to classes for fitness but more importantly lifelong friendships are formed, and I have been able to nurture these friendships over the years.
Favourite QWEP Class?
Deep Water Running, as I myself carry a knee injury and utilise the deep water running technique.
Sarah Blaubaum:
Qualifications:
I can remember participating in mum’s (Julia Dixon) Aqua Aerobics and Deep Water Running Classes since 1996. I have grown up in the water alongside mum and her classes, and developed a motivation to become part of the aquatic fitness industry. I am currently in the final stages of study at Griffith University, and hold a BA (International Relations), AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, and Certification though the Australian YMCA Institute of Education and Training in the Principals of Aquatic Movement, and the Instruction of Water Based Fitness Classes.
Why did you get involved in the fitness industry?
"Like mother like daughter!" I get real joy in working alongside people in a relaxing environment. The water is a wonderful way to keep fit, rehabilitate from injury, meet new people, and become part of something unique and special.
Favourite QWEP Class?
I really enjoy the intensity of Deep Water Running, and the low impact it has on muscles and joints. Aqua Aerobics is always fun with the right group of people, and Rock n Rolls are my favourite exercise. Both Julia and I are currently exploring Pilates techniques in the water (Aqualates), and this should be an exciting addition for QWEP.
